By the end of this course, students will be able to:
• participate in group discussions about a familiar topic with connections to the wider world.
• speak about a given topic for 45 seconds.
• respond to questions in a professional interview relating to an economic, political, or international issue.
• give rebuttals to the opposing teams’ arguments in a debate.
Students will accurately use basic and more academic vocabulary to talk about both familiar and more complex topics related to the wider world although vocabulary use will occasionally be imprecise or repetitive.
• Students will be able to restate their ideas using different vocabulary in the case of a break-down in communication.
Students will be able to give a well-paced and intelligible response that may contain minor pauses and mispronunciations that do not result in lack of clarity.
When speaking about familiar topics and more academic topics, students will be able to provide a relevant, organized, and coherent response although at times it may lack some specificity or elaboration and relationships between ideas may not be immediately clear.
