Speak Exam Information
For International Teaching Assistants

SPEAK (Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit) is a test for evaluating the English speaking ability of non-native speakers of English. At FSU, the SPEAK test is administered by the Center for Intensive English Studies to international students who have been appointed or will be appointed as teaching assistants in an academic department at Florida State University.

Schedule

The test is offered at the end of each semester. Special arrangements are made with the departments when new graduate students are admitted to a program. The SPEAK test can be administered at the beginning of the semester when new students are admitted to a program. Professors or TA coordinators should contact Dr. Mendoza to make arrangements. If you are a new student, please contact your department to inquire about the schedule for the test.

There is no charge for the first time that a student takes the SPEAK test. However, if a student must take the SPEAK test a second time or more, the student must then pay $60.00 for each subsequent test.
